Mental Health Awareness Week at BCE

By 17th May 2024May 23rd, 2024Big Creative Training

From May 13th to 17th, 2024, Big Creative Training celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week 💚! The Student Services, Safeguarding, and Counselling team at Big Creative Training planned various activities to encourage learners to talk about their mental health and wellbeing.

We kicked things off with mindfulness stretches and exercises to honor the theme “Movement,” which provided a welcome break for our learners as they worked through their FMP deadlines.

On Tuesday, BeeZee visited to raise awareness about food health and nutrition, linking it to positive mental health.

Staff participated in Wear Green Day, promoting the idea that we all “Have Time To Listen.” Learners were offered free healthy breakfasts throughout the week, allowing them to take a breather, feel positive in the morning, and promote mindfulness.

Finally, Podium.me facilitated a podcast session with our learners and staff to share their tips and coping mechanisms for positive wellbeing.

This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek2024 has been a great success. While supporting our learners, it’s crucial to remember that not all experiences of good or poor mental health are equal. Systematic and intergenerational trauma affects young black people and their families in ways that are still overlooked by the UK government and NHS.

Big Creative Training supports the #BlackMentalHealthManifesto and encourages everyone to read their manifesto. Thank you to the BCT staff team for showing so much enthusiasm and care in supporting our young people, always! #MentalHealthMatters
