Welfare & Financial Support

Our confidential welfare and guidance service is to support learners. If you are in need of financial support, you may be able to access the 16-19 bursary or Vulnerable bursary.

The student services team will advise you and support you by assessing your circumstances, and will be liaising with other professionals where appropriate,to ensure that you are accessing the right level of support with emergency finances and making any referrals to external organisations such as Housing Support, Early Help services, etc.

Counselling & Mentoring

Big Creative Training offers a safe and confidential counselling service accessible to all learners who wish to talk to us about any worries, concerns or fears relating to their personal or academic lives. If you are not sure that counselling is for you, we also offer a mentoring service, which is delivered by volunteering mentors within the college.

Wellbeing and Self Development

As part of holistic education, wellbeing is central to what we do. We work with young people to develop their characters by covering topics such as resilience, gratitude and responsibility in support of our mission in giving our young people values of integrity, self-worth and an ability to play a positive role. Bespoke sessions are delivered to students, suitable to their age and course level, and include all aspects of health, emotions, wellbeing, finances, politics and careers.

Safeguarding

Big Creative Training takes its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in its care. “The welfare of the child is paramount” (The Children Act 1989).

There are three main elements to safeguarding at BCT:

  • Prevention through the creation of a positive atmosphere and the teaching and pastoral support offered to learners and apprentices.
  • Protection by following agreed procedures, ensuring staff are trained and supported to respond appropriately and sensitively to safeguarding concerns.
  • Support to learners who may be affected by safeguarding concerns or issues arising.

All learners are entitled to be safe while they are in college. as well as at home, in the community, or online. Our safeguarding officers are available for any safeguarding issues or concerns you have about yourself or a friend or colleague.
