This year at Big Creative Education, work experience has a new face – trading in the Oyster card for the passport and taking our talented learners overseas! Throughout April, May, and June, BCE sent over 50 students to Prague, Czech Republic and Rethymno in Crete, Greece. This challenged our learners to test the waters of their comfort zone as they lived independently with their work peers, worked together in a foreign-speaking environment, and experienced new cultures as tourists outside of working hours.
Media, TV, and Film Production learners embarked on their voyage to traditional Rethymno. This vibrant and historical town housed our learners during their two-week placements, which ranged from Greek theatre production company Ble Productions, to marketing agency DesignGraphic, and hotel group HotelTeam. In the workplace, learners discovered and explored different types of Media careers in action. At the theatre, learners used backstage technical equipment to assist in the production and recording of stage rehearsals, whilst others were capturing cultural photography content to advertise hotels, plus creating social media campaigns to help boost online traffic for clients’ businesses.
Games Design learners flew out to Prague, in the heart of Europe, to meet and work for software company DATAMAZE and VR games development company DIVR Labs. With the placements came some intense but fascinating skills; including the creation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) cards to use in the framework of digital identity and representation. Imagination was also sparked as they brainstormed ideas for a new video game and collectively pitched these to their company seniors, later producing playable levels of the chosen game. In September, both our Games Design and Media courses will be taught in our brand new Digital Future building, where learners will have access to up-to-date world-class facilities!
