Big Creative Academy is pleased to announce a new mental health service available to all learners and staff provided by the Anna Freud charity’s Schools and Colleges Early Support Service.
Mental health support for young people is critical and centralised services continue to be in demand and often overwhelmed. The Anna Freud charity and the support they provide is a much needed service filling the gap.
Both students and staff can self-refer for one to one video calls when experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties such as:
- · low mood and mild depression
- · anger and irritability
- · disrupted sleep
- · apathy
- · mild to moderate anxiety
- · excessive worry
- · simple fears and panic
- · social withdrawal
- · superficial self-harm
- · low self-esteem
- · reduced confidence
- · managing stress
- · problem solving
- · reduced appetite
Staff wellbeing is essential for cultivating a mentally healthy college environment. Wellbeing is all about our holistic health, including the physical and emotional. When we have good levels of wellbeing, we feel that life is in balance and that we can generally cope well. As education staff juggle a multitude of different tasks and demands, it is important that everyone is given the right emotional and practical support so that they can, in turn, support their students.
Anna Freud also provide staff training sessions on how to support the wellbeing and mental health of learners in a series of webinars.
This service is in addition to the support students receive from the college as a whole, and a guide is available at this link. It’s an incredible offer to help overcome any difficulties staff and students may be experiencing and for Big Creative Academy to promote good mental health and wellbeing moving forward.
