This November, London plays host to plenty of creative events, including spectacular light shows, clubbing with a twist, enchanting stage performances and much more. In this blog, we’ve hand-picked six of the very best creative events in London and there’s something for everyone.

 

One for the photography buffs: The Illuminated River

Where: River Thames, London

The Illuminated River is an ongoing art installation supported by the Mayor of London. It transforms the Thames by night, with a breathtaking display of lights on nine of London’s famous bridges. The LED lights move in sequence to “symbolically unify” the Thames bridges, so it’s a great opportunity for all you budding photographers to get out there with your camera and take some amazing pictures. Just don’t forget to wrap up warm!

One for the ravers: Silent Sounds Boat Party

Where: Tower Millenium Pier

Silent Sounds on the Thames promises to take you on an unforgettable silent disco on The Dutch Master, a two-storey party boat that floats down the Thames as you dance the night away. You’ll get to take in London’s most iconic riverside sights while you party. Though it’s maybe not one for those who get seasick, this event is bound to appeal to those who like clubbing…only this time it’s on water.

One for the music heads: Pitchfork Music Festival

Where: Various

After a wildly successful edition in 2021, Pitchfork Music Festival returns to the capital with five days of curated performances across some of London’s coolest venues, like Hackney Church, EartH and The Roundhouse. The music spans multiple genres, so there’s definitely something for everyone, include indie favourites like Animal Collective and Courtney Barnett, the widely praised Black feminist punk band Big Joanie and alt hip-hop outfit Injury Reserve, to name but a few.

One for the fashionistas: Africa Fashion

Where: V&A, South Kensington

Africa Fashion is one of the V&A’s most ambitious new exhibitions. Time Out calls it a “triumphant attempt to complete the near-impossible task of capturing an entire continent through its fashion.” This exhibition will take visitors on a journey stretching back to the 1960s, reshaping the style narrative in a glorious celebration of African fashion through the eyes of contemporary designers and trailblazers from years gone by. Not one to be missed.

One for the art lovers: Cezanne at Tate Modern

When: November

Where: Tate Modern

The eclectic works of impressionist painter Paul Cezanne come to the Tate Modern in what they call a “career-spanning survey of a pivotal figure in modern art.” That couldn’t be more true – Cezanne’s works adorn the Eyal Ofer Galleries until April 2023, so there’s plenty of time to catch the exhibition and all the French master’s stunning portraits, landscapes and still life paintings.

One for the theatre fanatics: My Neighbour Totoro

When: November

Where: Barbican Centre

The much-loved 1988 animated feature film My Neighbour Totoro, by the legendary Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, has been artfully adapted for the stage by Tom Morton-Smith and the Royal Shakespeare Company, alongside original composer Joe Hisaishi. It’s a fantastical coming-of-age story about two sisters, exploring themes like the power of imagination.
