BCE Industry Day

By 18th April 2024May 23rd, 2024Big Creative Education, Big Creative Training

In March Big Creative Training sent 30 staff out to industry to spend the day in creative companies that matched the course that they teach.  The employers were both large and small and at the forefront of their respective sectors across Games Development, VFX, Animation, Media & Broadcast, Illustration, Digital Marketing, Events Promotion and Music.

The day was planned so our teachers could hear from different professionals within the business, take part in demos and masterclass and t shadow key product development and marketing meetings. In addition employers were able to explain the various entry routes into their business and the soft skills and attitude that they look for when hiring new members to their teams.

BCE would like to formally thank the following employers for taking part;

Here’s what some of our tutors had to say;

Shakira – Music & Events Management Tutor

‘At Soho House I had a fantastic day – I learned about the difference between the member events and the spaces they have available for private hire!! It was also interesting to learn how they streamline their processes – including the use of their Members App. Had a really great behind the scenes view of the workings of the Events & Hospitality Teams.’

Trevor Graphic Design and Content Creation Tutor

It was a very positive experience visiting Warm Street. They were incredibly open and forthcoming with information about their agency operations and provided valuable insights into the social media industry. we had the opportunity to meet with key individuals at Warm Street who shared their work and discussed how each role contributes to the overall structure of their output. This information will help in modelling the agency experience and expectations in the AEB courses.

Jacky – Next Gen Academy Tutor

The industry day was extremely useful, a lot of the professionals had discussed new techniques and approaches in their fields. More importantly, they revealed how best to prepare learners and identified routes into the industry.

Elyssa – Art & Design Tutor

It was a fantastic day! Lizzie King was a perfect match for me in terms of my professional interests as an illustrator and she is ~5 years ahead of me in her career and so was brilliant at mentoring me. I learned a lot from her and would be really happy to see her again.

Employers

Lara @ Fuga – So glad to hear the tutors found it useful. Enjoyed chatting with them and it definitely felt like they were engaged and had a lot of questions and their own insights to share. Thanks for having us involved!

Ollie @ Electric Theatre

It was a good session, I really appreciated that the questions weren’t just “how do we train students in software” and more about the broader industry landscape and, refreshingly, commercials and shorterform content, as that’s where we sit in the market. Definitely was a worthwhile

Marc @ Jagex

I had a great time with everyone from the BCE visiting us at Jagex. It’s clear that a continuous collaboration between the BCE and Jagex is of great benefit to us all and in the end the wonderful students.
