The Steel Yard – Junior Sales and Events Executive Apprentice

About the role:

Steel Yard City Spaces is looking for a Junior Sales and Events Executive Apprentice to join the venue hire team at The Steel Yard, London.

This role offers the opportunity to gain hands on experience inside one of the City of London’s most distinctive event venues. You will support venue sales, client communication and event delivery while learning how corporate events are planned and delivered inside a busy London venue.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to start a career in events, venue sales or event production, with the potential to move into a full time role following the internship.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a Junior Sales and Events Executive apprentice to support the venue hire team across sales enquiries, administration and event coordination.

The role is primarily office based but includes time on site supporting events, conducting venue show rounds, attending networking events and assisting with client meetings.

You will work closely with both the sales and operations teams and help ensure enquiries, bookings and event planning run smoothly.

Responsibilities:

Sales 
Supporting the handling of venue enquiries including:

  • preparing proposals and client information
  • updating enquiry and sales tracking systems
  • assisting with bookings for conferences, brand events and Christmas parties
  • following up with corporate clients and event agencies
  • assisting with venue show rounds and client meetings

Events:

  •  supporting event planning administration
  • assisting with running orders and event schedules
  • liaising with suppliers and internal teams
  • attending selected events on site to support delivery

Marketing and Business Development:

  • assisting with LinkedIn content and venue marketing activity
  • researching potential clients and agency partners
  • attending networking events and industry exhibitions

Live Events:

  • assisting with administrative tasks related to promoter bookings and live events

Administration:

  • maintaining accurate records of venue enquiries and bookings
  • supporting general office administration for the sales and events team

About you:

This role is ideal for someone looking to start a career in the events industry – You might be:

  • an event management student
  • a recent graduate
  • someone interested in venue sales, marketing or event planning

A degree is not required. Attitude, organisation and enthusiasm are more important.
You should be organised, proactive and confident communicating with clients and colleagues.
Some evening or weekend work may occasionally be required during events.

What a typical week might look like –

No two weeks are the same at The Steel Yard, but a typical week in this role could include:

  • responding to venue hire enquiries and preparing proposals
  • assisting with client show rounds of the venue
  • updating the sales pipeline and EventWorks diary system
  • supporting planning meetings for upcoming corporate events
  • preparing documents and schedules for events taking place that week
  • attending industry networking events or exhibitions
  • supporting the team during live events when required

You will work closely with both the sales and operations teams, giving you exposure to the full process of how events are sold, planned and delivered inside a working venue.

Skills Required

Helpful experience includes:

  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Google Workspace
  • Microsoft Office

Experience with the following platforms would be beneficial but not required:

  • EventWorks or other event management systems
  • Canva or similar design tools
  • CRM systems used to manage sales enquiries

Qualifications Required

A degree is not required. Attitude, organisation and enthusiasm are more important. You should be organised, proactive and confident communicating with clients and colleagues.

Things to Consider

The apprenticeship programme and your employment are fully integrated. You will be expected to show strong commitment to both your job role and your training. While the majority of your time will be spent working at The Steel Yard, a dedicated part of your contracted hours will be set aside for training towards your accreditation.

About the employer

Steel Yard City Spaces is the corporate and private hire expression of The Steel Yard.

Located beneath three restored Victorian railway arches in the heart of the City of London, the venue hosts conferences, brand events, awards ceremonies and Christmas parties for between 50 and 850 guests.

The venue includes a professional stage, LED video wall and integrated sound and lighting systems, allowing events to transition from daytime conferences to evening celebrations within the same space.

Alongside corporate venue hire, the venue also hosts live music events and works with external promoters throughout the year.
