Our Health, Fitness & Coaching course is your gateway into the dynamic world of sport, fitness, and wellbeing. Delivered over two years as a Level 3 Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-levels), it blends classroom learning, practical training, and industry-focused projects to develop your technical expertise and professional mindset. Whether you want to become a personal trainer, sports therapist, or coach, this course builds the foundation for progression into higher education or employment.

You’ll explore anatomy, nutrition, coaching, and sports psychology, applying your knowledge through live briefs, trips, and real-world scenarios. More than just a sports course, it’s a pathway into the world of health, fitness, and human performance.

This course leads to an NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity. A Distinction grade is worth up to 168 UCAS tariff points, providing a strong foundation for progression to university or a professional career in the sports and fitness industry.

Is this course free?

Yes! The course is free for students under the age of 19 on 1st September, or under 25 with an EHCP. There are no tuition fees, and you’ll even receive a free tracksuit for practical sessions. All necessary equipment and access to facilities are provided by the college.

What will I actually learn on the course?

This course gives you a complete foundation in sport, fitness, and coaching. Here’s what you’ll study in depth:

  • Sports Coaching & Leadership – Plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions tailored to individual or group needs.

Do I need to be really sporty to take this course?

Not necessarily. While an interest in sport and movement is important, you don’t need to be an elite athlete. This course focuses on a wide range of areas from coaching and health to psychology and business, so there’s something for everyone.

What kind of jobs or careers could this lead to?

This course opens doors to roles like personal trainer, sports coach, nutritionist, event coordinator, PE teacher, sport psychologist, or gym manager. It’s also excellent preparation for university courses in Sports Science, Rehabilitation, Sports Business, or Psychology.

What’s the timetable like?

You’ll study over 3 days a week, giving you time for self-study, enrichment, or part-time work. Your week will include:

  • GCSE English and Maths resits (if required)

You’ll use our fully equipped gym with commercial-grade machines, our outdoor football and basketball courts, and classrooms fitted with interactive tech. You’ll also access spaces for event planning, rehabilitation work, and collaborative fitness challenges.

Every unit is designed to meet industry standards. You’ll complete practical and written assessments that reflect real work environments. Projects include running fitness programmes, delivering PE lessons in schools, and planning community events. Employers and guest speakers are involved throughout.
