This course leads to a UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication, with a Distinction grade worth up to 168 UCAS tariff points for progression to university or a professional career in the creative industries.

Is this course free?

Yes! The course is free for students under 19 on 1st September, or under 25 with an EHCP. All software, design materials, and equipment access are included at no cost.

What will I actually learn on the course?

This course gives you hands-on creative and technical skills across both graphic design and photography. You’ll learn how to:

  • Use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom to create professional visuals

You’ll work on a variety of design and photography briefs — including personal identity pieces, album covers, brand campaigns, magazine spreads, photo essays, and experimental visuals. Projects are developed in sketchbooks and digital formats, and you’ll regularly present and critique work with peers and tutors.

What kind of equipment and software will I use?

You’ll work in Mac suites using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom). For photography, you’ll have access to DSLR cameras, lighting kits, tripods, and studio backdrops. There are large-format printers, scanners, and access to visual journals and moodboard tools.

How does the course support wellbeing and creative confidence?

We create an inclusive, open studio environment where students are encouraged to express identity and emotion through visual work. There are weekly wellbeing and tutorial sessions, 1:1 support available, and a focus on personal growth as well as creative skill.

What’s the timetable like?

You’ll study 3 days per week including:
