Skills Bootcamp
Employability support is built into every Skills Bootcamp, including tailored help to secure interviews so you can put your new skills into action quickly. We work closely with employer partners to guarantee you an interview for a role paying between NMW and LLW upon completion of the programme. Training is delivered through a blend of in-person and online sessions.
OVERVIEW
The Events Technician Skills Bootcamp is a 4-week hands-on programme preparing Londoners for careers in audiovisual services for events and live music. Delivered with GE Production, it combines practical event staging with employability support, enabling progression into work, apprenticeships, or further study through real production scenarios aligned with industry standards.
Participants build skills in lighting, sound, video, and LED processes, alongside professional behaviours such as communication, teamwork, and on-set etiquette. By the end, you will have learned modern AV workflows and H&S practice, gained industry-recognised certifications, and developed a portfolio for entry-level live event AV roles or further training.

ENTRY CRITERIA
- Be aged 19 or over and currently living in London
- Have the right to live and work in the UK
- Possess basic English and Maths skills (ideally at Level 2 or equivalent)
- Show a clear and genuine interest in live events, AV technologies
- Be able to commit fully to attending all 4 weeks of scheduled training
- Be unemployed, self-employed and looking to upskill or move into a creative production role
- Be open to hands-on, practical learning in studio and on-set environments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Health & Safety Course – nationally recognised workplace qualification demonstrating awareness of professional set and studio safety
- Certified PAT Testing Course – portable appliance testing accreditation enabling learners to safely check and maintain electrical equipment used in production
- Hands-on production experience using professional lighting, camera, and audio equipment in both studio and live environments
- Completed group advert project showcasing creative and technical skills, suitable for inclusion in a professional portfolio or showreel
- Employability workshops covering freelancing, CV writing, networking, personal branding, and building an online presence
- Upon successful completion, learners receive a Skills Bootcamp Certificate of Achievement
COURSE STRUCTURE
This Skills Bootcamp runs for 4 weeks, with sessions held 4–5 days per week (18 days total). Each day lasts about 6 hours, combining classroom learning, warehouse and live venue/site experience. The course moves from core skills to hands-on audio and visual technical set up & practice.
- Week 1:Â Induction, team building, Health & Safety certification, and introduction to sound for live events: equipment, set up, testing.
- Week 2:Â PAT testing certification, Lighting equipment, concepts, and set up for live events.
- Week 3:Â Designing, staging & lighting design for a live event, and teamwork at G&E Productions.
- Week 4: Audio/visual production, employability workshops, and final project presentation
