Students work on professional brief with Shoot Media

At BCE we’re training our students to work in the creative industries, and they often work on real jobs with real clients.

Some of our students had the opportunity to work with the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Charity at an event held at Mansion House, with a brief to document their Annual Impact Reception. The event celebrates the Lord Mayor’s social programmes to create a better city for everyone.

Students from BCE played a pivotal, professional role in recording the event. This included professional photography and videography, both during the event and behind the scenes. Students also planned and conducted interviews, skilfully posing questions to high-profile guests.

This hands-on experience allowed students to practise their learning in media composition, multi-camera operation and content creation. All skills in marketing and journalism that are in high demand in the creative industries.

Shoot Media were by the students’ side every step of the way, explaining what works, what doesn’t work, and what’s good practice in each situation.

Following the event, students continued to develop their skills by collaborating with Shoot Media on post-production, compiling and editing the recorded footage into engaging video clips of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Charity activities.

Shoot Media had some great things to say about our students:

“They teach me more than I teach them, I’m sure of that. Young people bring a ‘no limits’ approach, which forces me to re-evaluate my own thinking. It’s very refreshing.”

“Giving back is a rush – students adopt and integrate techniques faster than I can think of the next piece of advice.”

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal Charity also had high praise for the students, with the Lady Mayor pleased to have provided an insight into Mansion House. “The students’ level of enthusiasm, and the professional way in which they all approached the task, was impressive.”
