T Levels are a brand-new, 2-year qualification that you can do as an alternative to A levels, other post-16 courses or Apprenticeships.

The T Level Events and Venues Technician is a two- year course that requires 45 days of industry placements as part of your studies. This course has been developed to provide students with industry-level knowledge, behaviours and practical skills to pursue a career as an event technician within the events industry.

T-Level in Digital Production, Design and Development - Level 3

The course requires you to interpret and assess internal and external client(s) requirements for varied events and productions. Students will learn how to generate sound and lighting plans, design drawings and visualisations. They will be required to consider risk, environmental impacts and risk management as well as budget and client needs. Students will work independently and as part of a team to plan, produce and execute a variety of public events. Furthermore, they will learn how to translate conceptual design drawings and materials into detailed technical specifications and then live delivery at various BCE internal events and external local venues.

  • CAD
  • Lighting and rigging
  • Sound recording and setting up sound systems
  • Videography
  • Staging
  • Power tools and soldering for stage and technical management
  • Safely handle venue electrics and temporary electric supplies
  • Give and follow show cues including using lighting desks
  • Operate sound and lighting for live events

and is based on the same standards as those used for apprenticeships.

This T-Level is delivered across two years and supports progression into entry level job opportunities and apprenticeships. Job roles could include:

Ofsted Report

Big Creative Training Limited (BCT) is an independent training provider based in Walthamstow. BCT opened in 2000 and offers creative industries programmes for 16 to 19, apprenticeships, adult courses and alternative provision. BCT is rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in all areas.

Big Creative Academy (BCA) is a 16 to 19 academy based in Walthamstow. The academy opened in September 2014 and offers study programmes for students aged 16 to 19 in subjects to prepare them primarily for further study or employment in the creative industries. BCA is rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted

Teachers have very good subject knowledge and industrial experience, as well as strong commercial links with practitioners and employers; they use these effectively to help inspire students and provide a strongly vocational context to their development.

All staff work closely with students to help them overcome any barriers to learning, to assure their health and welfare, to maintain good behaviour and a positive work ethic; as a result, students feel safe and are able to achieve their potential.
